Captain Tanya Mark, Commanding Officer of 3016 RCACC will go to any lengths in recruiting new cadets for the 2009-2010 training year.
Airdrie’s recruiting banner was sent to the South Pole this year for a quick photo op with great assistance from Rob Johnson and Heather Undershute (Treasurer of 3016 PC) of Kenn Borek Air.
Recruiting banners were created for all 39 Alberta Army Cadet Corps as a recruiting and retention initiative for the Alberta Army Cadet League by AFPP-Cadet Kit ( www.cadetkit.com ).
The Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is the southernmost continually inhabited place on the planet.
Its name honors Roald Amundsen who reached the South Pole in December 1911, and Robert F. Scott who reached the South Pole the following month.
It was constructed in November 1956 to support the International Geophysical Year in 1957, and has been continuously occupied since then. It currently lies within 100 meters (330 ft) of the Geographic South Pole.
Because it is located on a glacier, the station drifts towards the pole at the rate of about 10 meters per year (about 33 ft/yr). The South Pole sees the sun rise and set only once a year.
Next year the banner is scheduled to visit the North Pole.
